We were in a code red evacuation zone and we went to spend the storm with my wife’s grandmother in a code yellow zone. She was ironically hit harder than we were, not with flooding but with wind. So many trees came down, we couldn’t drive off the block for days. One even fell into her bedroom window.

Many people lost everything, there was no electricity for three weeks, and it got really cold.

The level of chesed was not to be believed.

I remember walking into Shor Yoshuv to see an entire gymnasium of clothes on racks brought in by Satmar for people to replace their wardrobes.

Centers were opened by donors to provide hot meals for families.

Money was donated through local organizations and businesses to help people get back on their feet.

It was a time to remember. Reply
