Bushfire Relief |

The current bushfires across NSW and in particular in the Blue Mountains and the Southern Highlands have had a devastating impact on thousands of people and are continuing to threaten many homes.
We pray that G-d Almighty has mercy and brings a swift end to this terrible catastrophe, comforts the bereaved and heals the wounded.
"Here at Chabad North Shore we have opened our premises to house people who are in dire need of a place to stay as a temporary home" said Rabbi Nochum Schapiro of Chabad North Shore. "We have 40 bedrooms (each with en suites) which are ready and available to accommodate those in need."

Jedwab's 90th Birthday last Shabbat |
We witnessed an extraordinary 90th Birthday celebration at Chabad Malvern this Shabbat of our very special and much loved congregant, Leon Jedwab, a holocaust and Buchenwald survivor.
Leon was joined by his family and friends, which included the famous ‘Buchenwald Boys’.
Leon, a Cohen, after his emotional HafTorah, shared moving recollections saying how it was ‘hard to believe that he would be celebrating this birthday when he thought back to the events he had experienced. Those experiences, I recalled from Rabbi Lau’s words, past Chief-Rabbi of Israel, himself liberated from Buchenwald
as a young child, when he said on March of the Living ‘Welcome to Planet Auschwitz, if you think you have any idea of what it was like to be here, you cannot imagine.’

| We,
all of Israel, are emissaries of G-d, each of us as Divine Providence has decreed for us. None of us is free from this sacred task placed on our shoulders...

Parshat Chayei Sarah
Sarah dies at age 127 and is buried
in the Machpelah Cave in Hebron, which Abraham purchases from Ephron
the Hittite for four hundred shekels of silver.
Abraham’s servant Eliezer is sent, laden with gifts,
to Charan, to find a wife for Isaac. At the village well, Eliezer asks G‑d for a sign:
when the maidens come to the well, he will ask for some water to drink; the woman who will offer to give his camels to drink as well shall be the one destined for his master’s son.
Rebecca, the daughter of Abraham’s nephew Bethuel,
appears at the well and passes the “test.” Eliezer is invited to their home, where he repeats the story of the day’s events. Rebecca returns with Eliezer to the land of Canaan, where they encounter Isaac praying in the field.
Isaac marries Rebecca, loves her, and is comforted over the loss of his mother.
Abraham takes a new wife, Keturah ( Hagar), and fathers six additional sons, but Isaac is designated as his only heir. Abraham dies at age 175 and is buried beside
Sarah by his two eldest sons, Isaac and Ishmael.

| Parshah |
The Disappearing Groom
For a lengthy period immediately prior to the marriage, Isaac literally disappears: a summation of Isaac’s life leaves us with an unaccountable gap of almost three years. |

Jewish Feminism
As a child, I insisted on wearing dresses and the color pink. I guess I was born a feminist, in the nonpolitical sense. I celebrated my girlhood and was proud of it. |

What Is a Chassid?
A chassid is a mystic. A chassid is pious. A chassid is joyous. A chassid is selfless. A chassid is a revolutionary. What is the common denominator of all these traits? That a chassid lives life from the inside. |
